Logging is one of the Gathering Skills in Amazon's new MMO, New World.
It will help you seek out and obtain key resources that you can turn into Wood and other refined products, and requires you to equip a Logging Axe.
With plenty of trees in Aeternum, you shouldn't find yourself short when levelling your Crafting skills!
Is Logging for me?
If you're looking to increase your level in Weaponsmithing, Armoring, Engineering or Furnishing, then you're going to need a whole lot of Wood. This gathering skill turns you into a bit of an explorer as you hunt down rare woods.
To log a tree, press the interaction key (default E) when close to it. Be mindful to have a Logging Axe equipped, and make sure it isn't broken.
If you're running a build that requires Constitution, you'll get bonuses to your Logging ability. You'll get this for every 50 points you have in the stat.
- 50 Constitution: +10% logging speed
- 100 Constitution: -10% reduction on durability loss on tools
- 150 Constitution: -10% decrease in weight of logged items
- 200 Constitution: +10% logging speed
- 250 Constitution: +10% yield when logging
- 300 Constitution: 25% chance to chop down a tree in a single swing
Adding Bonuses to Logging
Via Crafting Perks
You can use the following special resources when crafting to add perks to your Logging Axe:
Via Trophies
Displaying Trophies within your home adds more bonuses to your adventures in Aeternum.
These are the three that are relevant for Logging:
Via Cooking
While not an upgrade for the Logging Axe exactly, certain food will grant a bonus to your results when logging trees.
Roasted Cabbage, and Boiled Cabbage, for example, increase Logging luck, and they won't set you back too much in terms of resources.
Cooking oil can be made using two portions of Fish Oil and a Nut. To get the oil, simply refine the fish you catch.
For Saffron and Dill, check out our guide to Herbs & Spices.
Cabbages can be found around the Stormcourt Fields in Ebonscale Reach and just to the east of Everfall Hamlet, as well as the fields north of First Light Hamlet.
Through Engineering
Finally, you can use Proficiency Boosters. These consumables add percentage modifiers to the amount of resources you gain when using a gathering tool.
Logging Resources
It's important to keep hold of anything you gather while Logging, as they are either needed for levelling up Crafting skills, or refined into further key resources.
Common Resources
Rare Resources
You'll also come across rare resources when logging trees. To increase your chances of gaining these materials, equip a Logging Axe that has the Starmetal Lumberjack's Charm crafted into it.
Tree Locations
There are a few interactive maps that have sprung up online that can help you locate the various trees in New World, especially the rare ones. Make sure you consult them when hunting that particular resource!
