In total, there are eight types of Gypsum - a new type of endgame resource - that has been added to New World in the December update, each obtained in different ways.
Here we'll detail just what Gypsum is, how you can get it, and how many you'll need to ultimately craft Gypsum Casts.
What exactly is Gypsum?
In response from community requests to improve endgame gear, Amazon Game Studios have come up with Gypsum. A new resource, it forms the basis of crafting endgame gear that has higher Expertise - the new name for the High Water Mark.
Gypsum can be farmed from several sources, such as Expedition bosses, Arenas, and Corrupted Breaches, and is then transformed into Gypsum Orbs at a new Kiln Station in settlements.
These are further refined into Gypsum Casts, of any weapon, armor, or trinket type. Crack these open (they're like chests) to reveal the gear item, with boosted expertise over its non-Gypsum equivalent.
For example, you can craft a Gypsum Spear Cast, which will net you a random spear with Gypsum-boosted Expertise. There's still an element of lottery in the specific gear you'll get, so be mindful of this.

Obsidian Gypsum
Gypsum Orb = 3 Obsidian Gypsum
Obtained from 60+ named bosses in the open world, most often in the following Elite areas:
- Spire of Melpomene - Reekwater
- Eternal Pool - Reekwater
- Forecastle Drift - Reekwater
- Ambusti - Shattered Mountain
- Greater Tribulation - Shattered Mountain
- The Tangle - Shattered Mountain
- Opulence - Shattered Mountain
- Upper Harrow - Shattered Mountain
- Old Myrkgard Shrine - Shattered Mountain
Sapphire Gypsum
Gypsum Orb = 1 Sapphire Gypsum
Dropped by the final bosses of The Lazarus Instrumentality and the Garden of Genesis.
Emerald Gypsum
Gypsum Orb = 1 Emerald Gypsum
Obtained from Trade Skill Aptitude Reward Containers.
Citrine Gypsum
Gypsum Orb = 1 Citrine Gypsum
Obtained from Arena Caches.
Amethyst Gypsum
Gypsum Orb = 7 Amethyst Gypsum
Obtained from Breach Caches.
Ruby Gypsum
Gypsum Orb = 2 Ruby Gypsum
Obtained from Outpost Rush Caches.
Diamond Gypsum
Gypsum Orb = 3 Diamond Gypsum
Only obtained during major events.
For the Winter Convergence Festival, Level 60 players will find Diamond Gypsum in the first 3 Trees of Light they interact with in settlements.
Topaz Gypsum
Gypsum Orb = 10 Topaz Gypsum
Obtained from Level 55+ hostile creatures, but only after consuming a Topaz Gypsum Attunement Potion.
Craft the potion, drink it, and start farming creatures immediately, as you'll only have an hour.
It can also only be crafted once a week!
Added in the New World 1.2 update, the Topaz Gypsum Attunement Potion isn't made through Arcana crafting like other potions. So how do you make it?
New World: How to refine Gypsum
To refine Gypsum, you'll need to visit a Kiln.
These new workstations can be found in the settlements of high-level zones: Ebonscale Reach, Reekwater, Edengrove, the Great Cleave, and the Shattered Mountain.
Ruling factions will need to work together to increase the levels of these Kilns, so that players can refine all types of Gypsum.
There are no trade skill requirements to refine Gypsum.
