If you decided to play Final Fantasy XIV via Steam you might already have seen the "A Technical Error as occured" on your launcher in different languages instead of the classic login box. This problem surged when Steam players were asked to link their account recently.
Many couldn't login nor play the game or even link their account as asked.
On the other, that day was a bit special and if the problem happened recently, it might be because of something different.

Most of the time with this error, you're not at fault, in fact this issue hapened yesterday again and just opening reddit or the steam forums made very clear that many people couldn't login, at least for Steam players. But why ?
The reason is quite simple and bad at the same time: the authentification servers from Steam to FFXIV were down. That's the main reason why these errors can pop out and there's pretty much nothing Square can do except poke Steam or post something.
Don't worry too much tho, most often than not these errors don't last long, if they do however, and you can't see any other Steam player blocked, the problem may come from your side. While the classic "delete the ETC folder", "reboot your router" or "change you Steam name" might help, spamming the launcher until it works or re-install will most likely do the trick. Only if it's not a general problem, re-installing would not have helped yesterday for exemple.
