Corrupted Ashbringer is without a doubt the most legendary weapon in WoW Classic not so much for its power but for its effects and its history. As dark as it is fascinating, this blade is the epitome of what is most formidable in World of Warcraft. However, getting it is not easy because it requires to venture to Naxxramas, the last raid in WoW Classic.

Who can get Corrupted Ashbringer?

In total, 3 classes can wear and use Corrupted Ashbringer:

Get Corrupted Ashbringer

In order to obtain this mythical sword, players will have to venture to Naxxramas and go to the Military Quarter. here they will have to defeat the Instructor Razuvious and Gothik the Harvester before hoping to try their luck against the Four Horsemen and hope that they drop it in the Four Horsemen's Chest.

The order in which the Four Cavaliers are defeated does not affect the drop rate of the Corrupted Ashbringer in the Four Horsemen Chest.

It is interesting to note that it is the Baron Rivendare, the successor of Alexandros Mograine, who is the holder of Corrupted Ashbringer before his final death during the fight taking place in Naxxramas.

Trivia

  • This is the corrupted version of Ashbringer, the legendary weapon worn by Alexandros Mograine until his assassination. This last event deeply corrupted the weapon,
  • Corrupted Ashbringer will give the wielder a -25 Stamina, instead of granting them like most gear,
  • This two-handed sword, although very powerful, is not the best in slot for any class. For most, Dark Edge of Insanity is better,
  • The wielder is affected by Call of the Ashbringer permanently, passing his reputation to Hated towards all Argent Dawn NPCs as long as they carry this weapon, but Friendly with the members of the Scarlet Crusade,
  • The corrupted Ashbringer wilder looks darker than normal,
  • The wearer hears regularly murmurings from the weapon, it is Alexandros Mograine, the former holder of the weapon.

Murmurs of Alexandros Mograine

The player wearing Corrupted Ashbringer regularly hears a voice whispering to them. They're the only one able to hear them, these whispers are from the former owner of the weapon, Alexandros Mograine, recounting the history of the war against the Scourge, the treason of his son, Renault Mograine then under the grip of the Dreadlord Balnazzar, and his resurrection as a Death Knight by Kel'Thuzad .

Here are the 12 murmurs that can be heard by the corrupted Ash Holder:

Event: Scarlet Monastery

Finally, the Corrupted Ashbringer also has access to a unique event that no other player will ever see. To trigger it, they must go to the Scarlet Monastery in Tirisfal Glades. Here, all the NPCs will be allied targets, instead of hostile without the weapon. The reason is simple: This is down to the hidden Call of the Ashbringer 'buff' that we mentioned previously which makes you hated towards all Argent Dawn NPCs as long as they carry this weapon, but Friendly with the members of the Scarlet Crusade

By going to the altar of the Cathedral of the Scarlet Monastery, in the last wing of the instance, a unique event is triggered: Renault Mograine kneels in front of the wearer and begs to purify the infidels. But the spirit of Alexandros Mograine, his father, appears there and returns to take his revenge.

Then the spirit of Alexandros Mograine kills his son, Renault, the Scarlet Commander, for his betrayal. Highlord Mograine then resurrects his former peer, High Inquisitor Fairbanks and disappears.

Fairbanks informs the player of the events surrounding the history of the Ashbringer, as well as where to find Mograine's other son, who has the ability to forge the blade anew. Sadly, those events do not take place in Classic, with the future Ashbringer story given away in each expansion until Legion, which finally gives Paladins the chance the wield the blade.

For a scripted preview of the event, we strongly recommend the following video:
