Fire Emblem: Three Houses — Greenhouse, gardening combos and seeds

An excellent way to get many gifts, vegetables and objects to permanently improve your statistics in FE3H is to use the monastery greenhouse, but you still need to know what to plant.

In general, Fire Emblem Three Houses explains quite well what to do and how to do it, but in some cases it lets you experiment to find out what works best. This is the case for gifts, as well as for the greenhouse.

Quickly accessible on weekends in Free Day mode, the greenhouse is your best friend. Not only will it be a fantastic source of vegetables for the canteen, to develop your relationships and earn teacher points, but it will also allow you to pick flowers that can be used as almost universal gifts, to improve your relationships or restore your students' motivation. The most notable, but also the rarest, bonus is a consumable that will permanently increase the statistics of the character who uses it. This means that by making good use of the greenhouse over the entire game, Byleth or another character can earn dozens of statistical points in addition to his levels. Finally, the greenhouse also brings in many teaching points for each harvest. So it's a feature that it would be a shame to neglect, even if it can be expensive.

How Gardening works

  • This part is explained in game with the help of Dedue's quest, but here it is again: During a Free Day, you can plant a certain number of seeds, based on your level of teaching. Only one at the beginning but up to 5 later.
  • You can then fertilize and consult the performance level displayed in the interface. Basic fertilization is free, advanced versions are more expensive and are based on your teaching level, once again.
  • The next time you are in Free Day mode, whether a week or 5 years later, you can reap what you have sown. You will then get your teaching points and objects.

How to get seeds ?

Before having the luxury of talking about greenhouse optimization, you already need to have seeds to plant, here are the main sources of seeds:

  • Complete quests.
  • Harvesting in the greenhouse, there are often many seeds in addition to fruits and others.
  • Collect objects from all over the monastery, especially in the garden area.
  • Use Amiibo in the dedicated section of the gardens and pick up objects on the ground.
  • Have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription and participate in the mini-game. This feature is only released after a few months, when the entire monastery is accessible.
  • Unlock additional merchants by completing special trade route clearance quests. Once again, it takes a few months for them to be available. But don't worry, they're very difficult to miss. Once the merchants are unlocked, you can finally buy all types of seeds directly and finally optimize all this properly.

Optimize performance

Interesting things start here. For the moment, we are far from having an exhaustive list of the best seed combinations, quite the contrary. This section will be completed and corrected as soon as we have more complete data on the subject.

  • As a general rule, it is important to avoid planting seeds from different geographical areas, as this seems to reduce yield.
  • Planting different types of flowers is usually a good combination.
  • You can plant a mixture of vegetables, fruits and flowers, as long as there is no regional incompatibility, but it is difficult to be sure of this.
  • It is rarely beneficial to plant several seeds of the same type, it is an option to be adopted at the beginning, but to be abandoned later.

At the beginning of the game, you can simply plant what you have at hand. But we advise you to wait until the end of your free day to do so, in order to benefit from a possible increase in the level of teaching, and to have all the possible seeds at hand.

Gardening Combos

We noted some combinations that easily provide a yield of 3 ears once fertilized, and statistical objects about 3 times out of 4.

  • Western seeds, Root vegetable seeds, Morfis berry seeds, Morfis seeds, Morfis seeds, Red flower seeds
  • Oriental seeds, Red flower seeds, White flower seeds, Purple flower seeds, Green flower seeds

Our preferred combination, the one that has proven to be the most cost-effective, is as follows:

  • Blue flower seeds, Purple flower seeds, Green flower seeds, White and blue flower seeds, Yellow flower seeds
