In the leech mode
According to Epic, while the leech mode has been improved the game experience for the 10% of the most talented players, it has made Fortnite a more frustrating and less fun experience for the remaining 90%. Because the leech mode increases the chances of meeting good players with 100 lives and 100 shields in part and therefore being eliminated without being able to do anything. The developers indicate that this caused anger in the community that the game had become "too hard" and say they noticed a decrease in the attendance of normal games during this period.
Epic recalls that originally the leech mode existed to encourage players in competitive games to be more aggressive in order to avoid crowded game ends, it also reminds that players who do not want to do without the leech mode can play in arena mode.
The developer therefore considers that his decision to remove the leech mode from the normal parts was the right one and does not intend to go back on it for the time being.
On the resolution stretched to competitive
And again Epic does not want to reverse its decision, two reasons for this:
- An optional adjustment giving a competitive advantage is not desirable when you want competitors to be on an equal footing.
- Stretching the image reduces the quality of the experience for the viewer.
These reasons were already known and had already been explained, so there was nothing new here.
On the frequent changes in-game:
Epic will continue to make regular changes to the game by introducing new weapons, items and vehicles. The developer is aware that this complicates the task of professional players, but the objectives of stability of the competition and constant addition of new features are simply not compatible.
Epic also adds that tournaments would probably not be as interesting to watch if they followed different rules from normal games or if some of the weapons, objects and vehicles were not available, which explains why it is not a question of creating a separate mode for the competition.
In summary
No changes are planned, there will be no leech mode in the near future, no stretched resolution or creation of a "tournament special" mode without some vehicles or certain objects.
It is personally difficult to believe that the leech mode has reduced the attendance of normal games, but since Epic did not publish attendance figures for this period, it is currently impossible to counter-argument on this point.
Regarding the stretched resolution and the constant addition of content, professional players around the world need to realize that the World Cup, and all official Epic competitions by the way, are not organized to please professional players. An official tournament is a marketing event, it is the public that is targeted and therefore obviously its comfort and viewing pleasure will come before the interests of the competitors, who will have to console themselves with the possible cash prizes they will obtain.
