What if anyone could become the owner of a professional team? As crazy as it sounds, that's the crazy bet some fans took by initiating a fundraiser in order to acquire a spot in the recently franchised LCK.

Fans organize fundraising to acquire LCK franchise

Just like the LEC and the LCS, the League of Legends Champions Korea will adopt the franchise model, starting in 2021. FaZe Clan, NRG, some of the biggest esports organizations all over the world showed interest in purchasing a spot — even though they've never been involved in any League of Legends tournament. Such investments require millions of dollars, an amount that only a few organizations can actually reach.

Alongside those big names, completely unknown contenders also showed interest in the LCK, with a completely different approach. Instead of being a huge organization, with sponsors and investors, Gamer Republic, Inc. gathers some fans, that decided to launch a fundraiser. The goal? Raise no less than $ 10 million to pay the entry fee plus an additional $ 10 million to maintain the integrity of the team over the years.

The organization's premise is clear: “Let's create a team of fans, by the fans, for the fans. "

As an investor you will have rights but also duties towards the team for 5 years.

  • During the 2021 season, all team decisions will be taken after a collective vote.
  • Investors will pick players and staff
  • You'll be rewarded according to your management choices via a website gathering all suggestions then comparing it to the actual team results.

For now, Gamer Republic Inc. managed to gather €20,000. If you want to embark on the adventure, you just have to head to the official kickstarter of the organization.
