In the run up to the big Xbox showcase on July 23, we had the chance to sit down with Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox for Microsoft. Watch as we talk Series X, what it can do compared to the current generation, and how he sees the console market playing out in the future.

Phil Spencer is looking forward. The upcoming Xbox Series X is the first console fully developed under his watch, and he foresees a shift away from the classic 'console wars' of old.

Together with our colleagues at jeuxvideo.com, we had the chance to sit down with Microsoft's Head of Xbox for a chat, and throughout he was keen to stress the importance of the player as the core of his company's strategy for this next generation of console gaming.

Topics covered included xCloud, Microsoft's long-awaited cloud gaming service, the 'PC-like' design of the Xbox Series X, and why console exclusives aren't really at the forefront of his thinking.

Also, could we see more Microsoft games on the likes of Nintendo Switch and PlayStation in the future?

Project xCloud will be included in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate in September

The Redmond company will upgrade its Xbox Ultimate Game Pass offer in September by merging it with Project xCloud, its cloud gaming service.
