Fortnite: From a Bug to a Ban for Waffles

Being banned from the competitive scene surely is not the best way to end your pro player career but it's still what Waffles, an American Fortnite player and streamer decided to do after being accused of cheating during the FNCS and being banned for 28 days because of it.

The reality is very different tho, as the pro player was in reality victim of a bug. Even after explaining the situation to the support of Epic Games, the studio decided to not lift the ban.

The sanction and the reaction of Epic Games were not digested by the player.

An uncontrolled bug

Boats on Fortnite have recently been causing bugs: they endlessly multiply items (including ammo), breaking the game's balance. Epic Games had warned pro players that anyone caught using this bug, especially during the last FNCS, would be severely punished.

It's hard to doubt the player's good faith while watching the video.

However, Waffles ran into this bug in the middle of the game during last weekend's FNCS. He didn't plan for it and the bug didn't helped him at all: he lost his inventory, replaced by Crash Pads. A useful item, but not a very efficient weapon. As seen in the video, he had no weapon to end his game with.

Waffles was then penalized by this bug during the FNCS qualifiers making him unable to qualify. But his misfortunes did not end there, a few hours later, he received a notification stating that his account had been banned for 28 days. The "AntyCheat " system spotted and banned him.

Waffles hoped to have the sanction lifted by explaining the situation to Game Support, however, the support didn't really help him. In an other tweet the player expressed his anger toward the Game Support as he asked to be put in contact with the manager.

In a context where players are more and more doubtfull about soft aims and the global cheating situation, the players received a lot of support on social medias but didn't announce if he'll return to the competitive scene later.
