Between Epic Games and Apple, the war has only just begun. Fortnite's publisher made a point of reminding us of this with the announcement of its brand new tournament entitled #FreeFortnite Cup.
Taking place on August 23, this solo tournament offers players on all platforms the chance to win an exclusive skin as well as a real cap that will be sent by post.
Tournament Details
Participants will have four hours to play a maximum of 12 Solo games. Scoring is as follows:
- Active Time - 1 point for every 3 minutes on the BR island.
- Eliminations - 1 point per Elim
- Victory Royale - 10 points for each Victory Royale
All you need to score ten points during the competition to get the Tart Tycoon skin. Then, the 20,000 players with the most points (all regions combined) will receive the #FreeFortnite Cap at home.
Finally, Epic Games is giving away pieces of gaming hardware (phones, consoles, and PC’s) to the top 1,200 apple-eaters during the entire competition. Players can win one of these prizes:
- Alienware Gaming Laptop®
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S7®
- OnePlus 8 - 90FPS on a phone
- PlayStation 4 Pro®
- Xbox One X®
- Nintendo Switch®
Built-in competition in the battle against Apple
It's probably not lost on you: absolutely everything in this competition is a tackle on Apple. In its official press release, Epic Games hammers out that the tournament is open "across all platforms", as a reminder that the game is no longer available on iOS.
Similarly, the consoles and phones to be won are obviously not from the fruit brand. Epic Games even calls on iOS players to express their dissatisfaction on social networks:
"Frustrated because you're blocked on iOS? Make your voice heard by messaging @AppStore on social with #FreeFortnite."
The skin and the cap to be won are also explicit references to Epic Games' fight against Apple. For example, Tart Tycoon outfit is the coercive figure and reference to Big Brother, in the Nineteen Eighty-Fortnite video created by Epic.
