The U.S. courts have set the date for the next ruling in the Epic Games vs. Apple case for May 3, 2021. The verdict will be handed down by a judge (not a jury) as was anticipated a few weeks ago. According to analyst Daniel Ahmad, both sides have agreed on this type of verdict.
He also explains that the central point of the debates will be the monopolistic status of Apple, which forces a 30% tax on the marketing of applications and in game purchases.
While the last hearing on the dispute between Apple and Epic Games was rather bad for Fortnite's creators, suspected of having entered the battle without good intentions, this next trial is expected to be rather incriminating against Apple and its monopoly — which will be at the center of discussions, according to experts.
After May 3, 2021 ruling, we'll know known when and if iOS users will be able to play Fortnite on their Apple devices.
Epic Games and Apple entered open warfare on August 13 after Epic Games set up its own payment system in Fortnite — bypassing the 30% taxes. The Californian company then withdrew the battle royale from its App Store in retaliation.
