PS5 sales to be online-only due to COVID-19 pandemic

In order to prevent the spread of the virus, Sony has announced that the PlayStation 5 will be sold exclusively online and not in stores on November 12 and 19.

PS5 sales to be online-only due to COVID-19 pandemic

In an official post, Sony has announced that no PlayStation 5 consoles will be sold in physical stores on release day (November 12 or November 19, depending on region).

The announcement had already been made for Japan a few hours ago, but now this precautionary measure will be applied to the whole world.

In order to limit crowds and camping in front of stores (as has been the case with each release of a new console), Sony simply decided to take precautions by stopping the physical sale of PS5s in stores.

In the interest of keeping our gamers, retailers, and staff safe amidst COVID-19, today we are confirming that all day-of launch sales will be conducted through the online stores of our retail partners.

No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region) – please don’t plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase. Be safe, stay home, and place your order online.

It will still be possible to order online on day one, to either have the console delivered or to use the click-and-collect policy of your retailer. It is recommended you contact your preferred retailer for more information.
