A monthly subscription to Fortnite was recently datamined. It would of course be optional — the battle royale will remain free-to-play — and would be an alternative to the purchase of the traditional battle pass. The world's biggest Fortnite leakers got their hands on an image synthesizing the potential future formula.
Each month of subscription would guarantee you :
- Access to the content of the current battle pass
- A bundle including several cosmetics (harvesting tool, back bling, skin...)
- 1000 V-Bucks
The price of this new formula remains quite enigmatic. Dataminers explain that the subscription will cost between $4.99 and $15.99 per month — without further refining this range.
It's difficult for the moment to estimate the good profitability of the product. Year-round, the subscription will probably cost you more than the battle pass. Everything will depend on the cosmetics affiliated to the subscription!
You still have to take this information with tweezers. Last year, a formula for an annual battle pass was also leaked, but never saw the light of day. The product notably guaranteed the acquisition of all the battle passes that would appear during the year, with other cosmetics and skins as a bonus.
It isn't certain that Epic Games will decide to change its monetization model overnight, even if the game will remain free-to-play. It should be seen as an additional purchase, for potential collectors, but which will not force the rest of the players to get their hands on the purse.
