In a surprise announcement at the start of the 2020 Video Game Awards, Nintendo revealed that Sephiroth, the popular villain from Final Fantasy VII, was coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
In a short clip, Cloud, the protagonist from FF7, battled Sephiroth, and the two even have some back and forth dialogue.
"Stay where you belong," Cloud said. "In my memories."
"I will never be a memory," Sephiroth said.
We see a short glimpse of gameplay, including Sephiroth seemingly impaling Mario, which turns out to be his sword caught on Mario's overalls. The tone is dark and sinister, and features classic visual easter eggs from the source material.
The new character will be available this month, Nintendo said.
