Take Two was also in the running for the acquisition of Codemasters, but according to Gamesindustry, Electronic Arts finally got the last word, with a punch offer estimated at $1.2 billion.

At stake were the many racing game licenses owned by the English brand, including Dirt, F1 and of course the Project Cars series from Slightly Mad Studios. Both parties were of course congratulated on this union with a few official words.

Gerard Florin, Codemasters CEO: "With a leading position in sports gaming, the Board of Codemasters firmly believes the Company will benefit from Take-Two’s broad capabilities which will help propel the long term success of Codemasters."

Andrew Wilson, EA CEO: "Our industry is growing, the racing category is growing, and together we will be positioned to lead in a new era of racing entertainment."

A rather surprising outcome, since the value of the studio had been estimated at only $875 million. With its offer exceeding one billion dollars, EA made sure to win the bet in a rather spectacular way.
