Ranked mode in VALORANT is constantly evolving, with big changes coming in Patch 2.02.
Changes include Convergence, changes to Diamond 3, and performance bonuses for lower-ranked players.
Patch 2.01 Corrections
-
Shorter queues for high-MMR players.
Riot understands that players at the highest levels have had to wait for over an hour for matches. With a few tweaks, they have managed to reduce this wait time to 10-15 minutes, without compromising the fairness and quality of matchmaking.
Patch 2.02 Changes
-
Greater Convergence between rank and MMR
If your rank is below your MMR, you'll see an increase in Rank Rating rewards, while you'll see less RR per loss.
The aim of this is to help players rank up more quickly.
-
Diamond 3 goes into Solo / Duo only
No longer will players be able to be carried all the way to the top!
Starting with Diamond 3, you'll have to play Solo/Duo should you want to climb the ladder. This also means that when you hit Immortal, you'll have truly earned it.
-
Performance bonus for Iron to Diamond
Games where you have performed exceptionally well should be better rewarded than average
Coming in Patch 2.03
-
Rewards given according to your rank or the highest rank reached at the end of the Act
This new system tests you at the rank it thinks you belong, instead of the standard nine matches beforehand.
You'll still need to earn a total of nine victories to complete your Act Rank badge, but only the best of them will determine your reward.
-
AFK is bad
AFKers will now be punished more severely in terms of RR losses, which can go above the usual caps. Don't AFK!
Coming in Episode 2, Act II
- Resetting between Acts will be less punitive, making it easier to maintain your rank from Act to Act, unlike partial resetting between Episodes
- Protect the prestige of the Radiant rank
- Targeted hiding of your rank (before and during games)
- Relaxed group restrictions at lower ranks
