Fortnite: contents of chests on update 15.40, drop rates of weapons

Epic Games hasn’t officially released any statistics or drop rates for Fortnite chests – but that doesn’t mean the information isn’t out there. Well-known leaker Hypex has created an in-depth breakdown of the weapons found in standard chests, and your chances of getting them.

How to read the infographic

  • The first row of the table tells you your chances of getting a certain type of weapon when you open the chest.
  • The columns show the drop rates for each weapon rarity, depending on what falls.
  • Each opened chest also gives a utility item from the list at the bottom of the infographic.
  • The chests also give ammunition and ONE category of materials according to the following drop rate : wood (47.6%), stone (35.7%) or metal (16.7%)

The chests that save the spawn

If you feel unlucky on landing when you stumble upon a sniper rifle or green pistol when the other side gets their hands on a tactical shotgun from their first chest, you're quite right. You have a 21% of chance of digging up a pistol or a sniper by opening a chest.

Taking a closer look at the drop rates, Epic Games is trying to give us effective weapons in urban combat upon landing. Chests have a 43% chance to give you an Assault Rifle, and a 22% chance to give you a Shotgun. The Submachine Gun drop rate is 14%.

The drop rate of shield potions (large and small) has often been criticized by pro players. Each type of potion only has a 17.6% chance to spawn in a chest. To compensate for this shield problem, Epic has had the decency to spawn Slurp Juice in several locations.
