Earlier today, Sony Interactive Entertainment Senior Vicepresident Hideaki Nishino officially announced the new VR controller for PlayStation 5.
The first thing that catches the viewer's eye is the controller design: it has an "orb" shape and there are actually two controllers, one for each hand. Apparently, this shape is designed with freedom of movement and comfort in mind. According to Nishino, "there are no constraints with how you’re moving your hands, providing developers with the ability to create unique gameplay experiences."
Regarding features, the Senior Vice President shared five important details of the new controller, some of which are similar to the Dual Sense features. For example, each controller has an adaptive trigger and haptic feedback. Also, there's finger touch detection – which allows the user to control the device without actually pressing a button – and the controller has a tracking ring that synchronizes with the VR headset.
There is still no information about possible release dates or pricing. For more details, please visit the PlayStation's blog.
