The latest offering from Rockstar Games isn’t what we’d expect — they’ve teamed up with the iconic Ibiza club icon Circo Loco and created a record label by the same name. This isn’t something completely new for Rockstar, as they have worked closely with music labels and promoters for the soundtrack to Grand Theft Auto — and the new nightclub in GTA Online was the perfect precursor to creating their own music label.
The first EP from CircoLoco Records will be hitting shelves on June 4. A new EP will be released every week until July 9 — when the compilation album Monday Dreamin’ will be released. Various artists have collaborated on the album, including Luciano, Seth Troxler, Lost Souls of Saturn, and Tokimonsta — most of them have been involved with Circo Loco parties before.
The partnership makes a lot of sense, CircoLoco has been influential in the dance music scene for decades — and a nototious presence in Ibiza, the hottest of dance hotspots.
“Both CircoLoco and Rockstar have a real passion for music, so it felt very natural to come together and for Rockstar to take this step with us,” CircoLoco’s Nick Benedetti says. “This first release will represent 22 years history of CircoLoco as a longstanding brand in electronic music. But for the future, we want to create new collaborations and crossovers and scout for talent to give a platform and extend reach for new artists.”
With companies like Epic setting up virtual concerts, this is a move that will allow Rockstar Games to leverage and promote its own acts.
