The newest episode of "Ask Valorant" brought some light regarding the FPS instability and the fans questions about five-stacks ranked queues.

Valorant's devs address performance issues and the lack of 5-stacks

During the latest edition of "Ask Valorant", developers shared some opinions regarding two of the most important issues of the game: the performance's problems and the absence of a complete team ranked queue.

First of all, Performance Engineer Brian Fischer explained the differences between users with low spec machines and those with medium-high spec ones. The latter tends to be CPU bound, so changing the graphics settings may not improve the performance.

When looking for solutions, Fischer said that they will improve CPU performance by improving baseline performance or removing hitches. Also, they noticed performance issues with Viper and Astra, so they will check every Agent and prepare solutions for them.

Furthermore, the Engineer explained that performance issues can vary according to modes or even the way that rounds play out:

"FPS can seem unstable at times because of how rounds play out. Early parts of the round are spent gathering information and watching fights between a fewer number of players. Later in the round when players are attacking or retaking a site, we tend to see many bodies fighting each other and increased ability usage, all of which can decrease FPS."

On another topic, Competitive Designer Jon Walker shared that they were working on how to bring 5-stacks back. He presented two main questions for this topic: "How can we enable five-stacks, with wide ranges of skill, to compete in ranked?" and "How can we create a high-stakes competitive experience for teams?"

Regarding the first one, Walker explained that splitting queues might be a bad solution because one queue would become less prestigious. Also, they are always considering "match fairness" and they want to make sure that any solution they came out with "maintains competitive integrity".

About the second question, it seems that something will be announced soon, following the beginning of Episode 3.
