LoL: The LEC could expand in 2023, adding two new teams to the competition

Recent news about the arrival of Team BDS after buying the seat of Schalke 04 could change the LEC. An upcoming meeting has been added to determine a possible expansion of places that would take place for the next season in 2023 — and if confirmed, would increase the number of teams in the top European League of Legends competition to 12. Two additions that, if confirmed, would increase the number of teams in the top European League of Legends competition to 12.

The Future of the LEC

According to the Esportamaníacos program, the future of this expansion depends on a meeting between the teams already established as part of the LEC — meaning that the members themselves would make the decision about new additions. If approved, it would provide opportunities to prominent clubs such as Karmine Corp, Vodafone Giants or Team Heretics.

The need to make room for new teams in the LEC has been discussed over the last few months, and now it seems it is a reality.

The meeting is scheduled for sometimes in August, so we will have to wait a while before finding out whether there will be new additions to the LEC. The question of needing to eliminate the obligation to line up two national players in the Regional Leagues will also arise — a possibility that Riot Games may be more reluctant about.
