It's been almost a year since Mythic items were introduced in League of Legends. Riot Games' big goal since November 2020 has been to get the system working, and the past ten months have not yielded positive results in this regard.
Forgotten items such as the Imperial Mandate, the Trinity Force or the Prowler's Claw abound in the game, and the long-awaited diversity of choice seems to be lacking.
Stats have showed that the situation regarding items is getting worse and, although some categories of champions are close, a third do not meet the requirements. It's a situation largely explained by the lack of interest generated by certain items that become the missing link in their category, but also by the opposite: several overpowered items dominate the game.
Riot's two big failures with Mythic items
Although it is a complex system that need greater analysis, there are currently two incomprehensible problems that hold back the system -- the Divine Sunderer and the Goredrinker, two items Items that lie second and third on the popularity charts in ranked matches.
Accompanying these items in the charts is Sterak's Gage. Although it is not always completed, this item usually complements the core builds of the champions who choose the items mentioned so far.
In this way, an extraordinarily one-dimensional combo is the norm, with alternatives barely chosen -- Stridebreaker (2.1%) is no longer interesting, and Trinity Force never was (1 .3%).
A matter of versatility
Unlike the trio of items for marksmen (Kraken Slayer, Immortal Shieldbow, and Galeforce) and those for mages (Liandry's Anguish, Luden's Echo and Everfrost), the items for fighters have managed to transcend their category of champions.
It's easy to find assassins or ADCs who use these items as their main alternative. It's a situation that has reached the point of conditioning the metagame in favor of those champions who use these two items.
Heading into the upcoming Patch 11.16, there are no planned changes to the item system. Modifications that, in any case, would not seem destined to solve anything, either.
Mythic items have a core issue that can't be fixed with just a few buffs and nerfs, so it looks like we won't have any updates until preseason begins and a deep overhaul is carried out.
