June 3, 2014, saw the release of Smite and Ignite, the first album from fictional League of Legends rock group Pentakill. The band, made up of champions Karthus, Olaf, Mordekaiser, Yorick and Sona, sought to replicate heavy metal in Runeterra. The Pentakill skins released for these characters were inspired by rock legends, and were tremendously popular -- almost as much as the album.
Three years later a second album dropped, Grasp of the Undying. The success was even greater, managing to enter the Billboard Top 40 and charted number one in the metal section on iTunes. It was a triumph that paved the way for the next League of Legends supergroups, K/DA and True Damage, and further down the line the creation of a dedicated department within the company: Riot Music.
Now it seems we have a date for the return of Pentakill. We knew something was brewing, and today the Riot Music Twitter account published the above message, teasing a third album.
From simply a song or a music video to a full new album, we'll find out on September 8. There could even be guest members, who will likely also get crossover skins in-game.
The published image suggests Aphelios could be part of the release, but that's still a theory. Either way, we can't wait to rock out with the best band in League of Legends.
