League of Legends has been gradually giving up its social features over the years. The disappearance of the the likes of clubs and global chat on the game servers has meant a lack of being able to discover new players to connect with.
It's a step back that Riot Games seems to want to correct, with a new tool that it is already in testing on one of its official servers.
A new system for making friends in League of Legends
Although at the moment it is only available in Russia, the intention is to create a new section in the client that is exclusively intended for finding friends.
Players can fill out a form with basic questions about our favorite game modes or schedules, so that the system returns a list of suggested players who are also looking for new partners.
This new tool is quite simple to use, and seeks to resume some social capabilities within the game. While it's only in testing, it's a welcome step forward in helping those who prefer to play in a team rather than solo.
It is very likely that, based on the results of the tests, Riot will be encouraged to launch this tool on other servers very soon. It's an option that would strengthen the League of Legends community by giving players new incentives to play, and is one that comes at key moment with the future introduction of challenges.
