The most hated champions in League of Legends aren't necessarily the best.
While Riot Games has insisted on creating characters that are fun to play against, their ability for this approach to reach Summoner's Rift has always been somewhat limited.
Often, we can observe how many of the most-banned champions are always the same, regardless of their performance on Summoner's Rift -- decisions made more to avoid the frustration of facing them than to win games.
Lulu, a statistical anomaly in League of Legends
One of the most obvious cases of frustration ban is Lulu. Although supports such as Sona, Rell, and Leona have shown to be much more efficient, Lulu has a pretty high ban rate of 36.2% from games played at platinum rank or higher.
It's an anomaly reminiscent of Zed, who regardless of his status is always in the top three positions when it comes to champions hated by the community as a whole.
Lulu's defensive abilities that allow her to defend her allies are well known. Both E (Help, Pix!) and R (Wild Growth) are enough to withstand a good amount of damage that would otherwise kill the ally.
However, some members of the community have found that the problem is not that she is able to fulfill the traditional support role, but instead that she endows her teammates with offensive power greater than most items.
With the help of Pix and the use of the W (Whimsy) on an ally, this can reach an additional stat value in speed and attack damage that can reach 5,000 gold at level 18, according to efficiency statistics.
It's a figure to which we'd still have to add the improvements that items such as the Ardent Censer or the movement speed of Shurelya's Battlesong could bring, and that even at intermediate levels, is like momentarily adding a completed item to the ally.
This circumstance could be the true reason League of Legends players desire to avoid Lulu in matches.
