One of the champions with the longest history in League of Legends is responsible for the creation of the game's minions, according to new lore.

Minions become part of the League of Legends canon after years of slamming into turrets

The history of Runeterra and the League of Legends champions has long followed a different path from Summoner's Rift, Riot Games' primary game map.

There are still bits of past times, such as the mention of summoners, despite the fact that they no longer exist as such within the game world. In the middle of this mess of continuity and canon, there are some key characters in the games that don't quite have a place in the world -- the minions.

A constant and source of gold in League of Legends, they are also key to understanding the macrogame and its reliance on creep waves.

However, they didn't have their own slice of the new Runeterra lore.

The latest reveal for Legends of Runeterra, Riot's card game set in the same universe, has sought to correct that.

Veigar has been revealed as a new champion within Legends of Runeterra, as part of the Beyond the Bandlewood expansion. In the art for the champion's Level 2 card, Riot has revealed a place for minions in the world of League of Legends.

Veigar doesn't get stronger within the card game, but instead climbs onto a large magical robot -- becoming Grand Foreman Veigar in the process.

The illustration shows League's minions -- to whom Veigar bears a strong resemblance -- following their commander into the fray.

Thanks to this little detail, we discover that the creator of the minions is Veigar himself.

It remains to be seen whether Riot will expand on this through a cinematic or story on the Universe site, but we look forward to whatever comes next to expand the lore.

LoL: The unexpected combination of items that proves the new system is a great idea

Although the reworked item system hasn't necessarily been highly regarded by the League of Legends community, it has still thrown up some extraordinarily fun combinations.
