During a live stream, one of Riot Games' champion developers gave their tier list of champion ultimates, based on their power. Some of the results are rather surprising.

Each of the champions in League of Legends has a design built on a specific task, with their power distributed through all the spells available. However, some are based on the accumulation of potential in a single ultimate ability, capable of changing games.

The best and worst League of Legends ults

Developer August Browning, responsible for champion design, is known for providing insight into the decisions Riot makes surround its champions, has now given some more thoughts on these champion ults and what he considers the best.

More than two hours of discussion between Browning and the League of Legends community went into this tier list, while agreeing that most champions have very good ultimates.

The first decision that catches the eye when looking at the tier list is the fact that Karthus is in another category entirely. While his ult is on another plane when it comes to game-changing status, the truth is that the rest of his kit is pretty weak.

In S-tier there are several champions who have global ultimates, such as Twisted Fate, Galio, Gangplank, and Soraka. However, the likes of Sivir, Nautilus and Camille stands out as being surprise top-tier ults, but all are prized by both August and the community.

The intermediate tiers focus on dealing damage or the ability to block enemy champions, but pale in comparison to the high tiers. For example, Amumu appears in the third tier despite having an exceptional ultimate, due to the fact that it sometimes looks like a worse Malphite ult.

Ultimately, it is worth noting that only three champions are ranked in the bottom tier - Akshan, Maokai, and Zoe. In addition, there is room for the most inconsistent abilities -- those with a lot of potential, but which are difficult to use correctly.

Other ults can't necessarily be ranked properly and have their own tiers, such as Sylas (standalone), those whose ults simply empower spells (Heimerdinger, Karma, LeBlance), and a final tier for those whose ults aren't even ults at all (Nidalee, Jayce, Elise, Udyr).

What do you think of August's tier list?

LoL: Rogue extends Larssen deal until 2023

Whether or not Rogue win the LEC title this summer won't halt their march towards Worlds. In addition to securing their spot at the League of Legends flagship event, the organization has also tied down talented midlaner Larsson until the end of 2023.
