As always, League of Legends comes to a standstill when a new champion is gearing up for release. Vex has been no exception, with Riot's preview piquing players' curiosity.
However, in the inevitable scrutiny that follows any kind of reveal, there has been a level of disappointment that begins to mark a negative trend for Riot.
Initial skin creates controversy
Unusually, the problem with Vex is nothing to do with the character design or gameplay details we've been privy to so far.
This time, it centres on the skin that will accompany the release, with the complaints focused on two aspects. On one hand, its apparent lack of coherence with the rest of the theme, and on the other, the quality of the cosmetic itself.
While Riot has not yet spoken on the matter, Gwen went through a similar controversy. The developer explained at the time that this was to do with a dissonance between the champion design teams and the skin design teams, who are separate.
New champions are frequently launched alongside skins that fit the ongoing theme at the time, a trend that looks to be continuing.
