League of Legends is not only characterized by its major changes. While players are aware of Riot's decisions regarding champion balance changes or new releases,, there are times when its a small detail that completely alters the game experience.
This is something a Rioter has discussed in a new community discussion.
The little change that makes Riot proud
The topic of the discussion was simple: pointing out changes made by Riot which at first seemed catastrophic, but turned out to be masterstrokes in the long run.
Things such as jungle timers, the Elder Dragon, and adjustments to Kassadin were given, and developer Bryan "CatchesAxes" Salvatore had his own to add.
His contribution to the discussion was the power adjustment to minions that made the team in front have more powerful minions.
This change was not particularly problematic in terms of the number of opinions, but most League players were against this decision in the beginning. However, Riot considers this change a great idea for its two consequences.
On the one hand, the iteration reduced the average duration of the games by 30 seconds. On the other, the number of comebacks from teams behind early game also increased.
The logic behind the change was simple -- if minions push the losing side's lanes, then that team are more exposed.
However, not everything is a net positive, since those with the advantage had greater options to close out games. In this sense, the adjustment created a new, more marked starting situation, in which both teams had to make decisions based on the positive and negative consequences of their strategy.
The time saved with this change allowed Riot to remove the 'trash minutes' from games, leading to more naturally quicker games.
Ultimately, it's one of the decisions Riot has made that players appreciate, for the reduction in average game time.
