Every League of Legends teams do not have the same policy towards substitutes. Some bring in real hairdressers but others rely on their subs to make big differences. SKT T1 for instance won world championship titles with players like Easyhoon (4 games) in 2015 or Bengi (10 games) in 2016.
But if Asia is increasingly forming XXL rosters, Europe is still behind on the matter. Then, how many substitutes should be allowed in Worlds without breaking the tournament's balance?
Riot Games has yet to give an official response. But the Korean team Hanwha Life Esports kind of hinted the rule. When announcing their roster for Worlds, they said that they were bringing 2 substitutes.
For a long time, Riot Games only allowed one sub for the tournament but little the idea of having several subs made its way and, the teams should have the right to bring 2 additional players , in addition to the 5 starting players.
In 2019 and 2020, the teams needed to bring at least one replacement and could bring a second as they wanted. We can expect the same scenario this year.
