Riot Games recently detailed its plans to combat AFK players in League of Legends, including toughening punishments.
In addition to being placed into the low-priority queue, there could now be bans of up to 14 days for persistent offenders.
Statistics show that 9% of the world's players go AFK on a regular basis, a number which seems huge. However, under what circumstances are you most likely to encounter them?
Low elos are the problem
Unsurprisingly, AFKing is a bigger problem at lower ranks. Players face hell in Iron, with 18% of games featuring an AFK player. A staggering figure, it improves slightly to around 10% in Bronze.
It's quite sad to see most players doing their best to get out of those elos, but not being able to because of these griefers. On the other hand, the more we rise in the ranks, the more the AFK number falls.
It settles at around 2% for players at Diamond rank, perhaps because there's more at stake.
As for the region that AFKs the most, one that stands out in the worst possible way -- Turkey. It's fairly suffice to say that if you are Bronze or Iron on the Turkish server, your SoloQ experience will be rather tempestuous.
European servers improve overall to about 5-6% in Solo Q and 3-4% in Flex.
For Japanese players, however, things are much more serene -- as the AFK rate there is the lowest.
League of Graphs is a fountain of data, also offers AFK stats according to champion. We're really not surprised that the most-AFK champion in the game is Yasuo...
