It is perhaps to help make people forget all the setbacks of the studio with Diablo Immortal, that Blizzard has just opened pre-registrations for Diablo 4. You can now find them on the game's official website, at this address . As the site specifies, these registrations give a chance to participate in future beta tests, but also to receive official Diablo 4 news. However, do not get too excited, beta tests can take place years before the release. of the game, and no release date has been announced yet.
Diablo 4 only Next Gen?
As can be seen on the site's main page, only 3 platforms are listed, Battle.net for PC, Xbox Series X and S, and Playstation 5. Diablo 4 was originally announced before the official reveal of this generation of consoles, so it was logical at the time to announce a release also on PS4 and Xbox One. But the relevance of this decision is increasingly questioned as the years pass, and if Diablo 4 does not come out until 2023, or even 2024, it would be relevant, at least, from a commercial point of view. The positive point is that the developers will gain my leeway and time, since the less efficient platforms restrict the possibility of integrating certain functionalities. The lack of an SSD on the previous generation of consoles was problematic, especially for open world games.
Many concerns about Diablo 4
The situation is far from good for Diablo 4, after all the misfires of Activision Blizzard in recent years, and the outrageous P2W direction of Diablo Immortal, players have good reason to worry. It was only a few days ago that it was discovered that Blizzard is looking to hire someone to design Diablo 4's in-game store, which is something to send shivers down your spine. Blizzard may take an Assassin's Creed-like approach, for example, but it's also possible that it will be a real "service game", with content updates, and regular paid elements. The conventional monetization of Diablo 3 would have often been criticized by Activision Blizzard officials, since it is less profitable in their eyes. It would therefore make sense for them to seek to integrate a more aggressive type of monetization. In return, we can hope that the game will be less neglected than Diablo 3, but it is increasingly difficult to give the benefit of the doubt to the studio, or to have an optimistic vision on their next titles.
