It's rare these days for a studio to admit games are in development before they're officially announced, but Cyberpunk 2077's recent comeback was perhaps a good opportunity for CD Projekt Red to give fans something to look forward to. players. The studio has detailed many projects for its various licenses, including Cyberpunk. The Phantom Liberty expansion was officially announced a few weeks ago, and now a full game is in the works.
A very (too?) early announcement
The official title of the game is unknown, and it probably hasn't been decided yet. It is therefore referred to by its code name: Project Orion. There was no trailer or release slot. In practice, we know almost nothing about it, except that we will have to wait a bunch of years before we can play it. Best not to think about it too much right now, or you'll hurt yourself as much as Cyberpunk 2077 did. or an event in a few years.
CD Projekt North America in charge of the project
Two studios located in North America were acquired by CD Projekt Red last year. One is in Vancouver, and the other, in Boston, is called The Molasses Flood. It is this one who will work on the Sirius project. It is next to this last studio that a new branch was opened in order to develop Orion: CD Projekt Red North America. The goal is to develop two AAA games in parallel with the Polish studio working on the next The Witcher game.
Orion, for a departure towards the stars?
The following items aren't official, but if you like to think about what Project Orion might look like, we have some ideas. Historically, the events of the Cyberpunk license have centered on Night City, but that doesn't mean there isn't anything outside of it, and nothing happens there. It is simply the iconic city of the license, since it is totally in the hands of the corporations, and the mortality rate there breaks all records. It would be quite unwelcome and boring to just reuse this city in all games. A good example in this area is GTA, which alternates between different cities.
It's only a vague theory, since Orion, like all CD Projekt Red projects, takes its name from a star or a constellation, but it could be a clue as to the direction the sequel will take. of Cyberpunk. Cyberpunk 2077 has two different endings that take us to space, that of Arasaka, on board their space station, and those in which we continue to work as Cyberpunk, for the blue-eyed man, who asks V to attack a space casino. Lucy's dream in the Edgerunners anime is also to settle on the moon. It's starting to make a lot of coincidences. In the Cyberpunk universe, the moon is colonized, with two notable cities.
Even if the whole adventure does not take place in space, these are some tracks to expand the playing field, in addition to the badlands around Night City, for example. It only remains to wait a few years to find out what CD Projekt Red has really planned.
