Viewership figures for Worlds of League of Legends are piling up as the competition progresses. For the moment, there is one constant: the statistics are worse than last year. Play-In, group stage, everything is less good. Some hope that the playoffs, which begin Thursday evening for us, will save the day, especially because the cast is 5 stars. But we don't really dare to believe in miracles. There are too many disabling factors.
In this slump, France and OTP are not doing so badly. A good way to see the glass of water half full.
A spectacular drop in audience!
Numbers can say anything and everything if they are cleverly twisted. But for once, the drop in audience for the Worlds of League of Legends is real, not to say spectacular. Compared to last year, the main indicators are down by almost 40%! The peak viewership is thus 1,390,933 (-38%) during the group phase and the average viewership is 826,034 (-37%). The audience remains large, but the decrease is worrying, while esports and streaming continue to grow.
Riot Games will have to ask the right questions to stop the bleeding. Even if this year's tournament is not helped by its unwelcoming schedules for Asians and Europeans, that's no reason to hide.
OTP is doing very well
The good news in this story is that the French scene is doing well. OTP (Twitch) is the third most followed, behind the official Twitch broadcast and YouTube. Despite the night hours, the OTP crew managed to thrill the community, which remained faithful to the event. It must be said that France is known for having a passionate audience. Even if there were no French qualified for the Worlds, we still watched the competition a lot in France. It must be said that there were still the Nisqy brothers and Targamas (Belgium) to support!
The most followed match of the Group Stage involved a European team. This is the Fnatic vs T1 match, a poster that inevitably attracts the curious.
