Epic sued over Fortnite player data leak

A law firm in North Carolina has just filed a class-action lawsuit against one of the biggest gaming company — a kind of grouped complaint in which a group of consumers sue a company. The target company is of course Epic Games and the case is based on flaws and bugs that allowed hackers to steal many Fortnite account names and passwords.

Because the data was not sufficiently protected, hackers only had to send a link to their victim. If the victim clicked on it, the hacker instantly retrieved the account name and password without doing anything else.

Epic acknowledged that flaws existed and have since closed them, but at the time, the company did not warn its community of the danger. As a result, thousands of people had their accounts hijacked by strangers without understanding how their data could have been stolen.

It is to obtain compensation that today more than a hundred players have filed this legal action.
