Epic Games are clearly not easing up in their pursuit of cheaters in Fortnite. Jarvis Kaye, content creator and player for FaZe Clan, fell foul of Epic's terms of services relating to using an aimbot.
In several videos on his channel, Kaye used the aimbot in both solo and
With a YouTube subscriber base approaching 2m, nearly 170k followers on Twitter and the support of one of the biggest clans in esports, Kaye is a popular member of the Fortnite community.
However, that community is now divided on the ban, with supporters taking to social media using the #FreeJarvis hashtag, and others critical of cheating in the first place — and that being popular isn't an excuse for a more lenient punishment.
One questioned FaZe Clan's role in his supervision, while fellow FaZe teammate Nate Hill — himself no stranger to controversy — offered his support.
Kaye himself took to YouTube to reveal the ban.
"All I was thinking about when I was making those videos was just how entertaining and interesting these videos would be for you guys to watch.
He goes on to say that he didn't know what he was thinking, and that he didn't realise the possible consequences of his actions. He also assured fans he'd never used the aimbots to gain a competitive advantage.
"I just want to be clear — this is my first time I've ever done anything like this, and of course I have never done this in a competitive game mode, at all."
Kaye grew visibly distressed as the near-seven minute video went on, as the ramifications of not being able to play the game he loves nor create content for fans hit home.
The ban from Fortnite is total, as Kaye explains he won't be able to attend events in the community going forward. He does pledge to continue creating content, but as to what that entails remains to be seen.
"That the end of the video guys," he signs off. "I'll see you in my next one. I don't know... I don't know..."
