There are three categories of items in Pokémon GO. Purchasable items, items that can only be found, and items that will be given to you. These three categories are detailed below. Note that most can also be obtained by raising your Trainer Level.

Purchasable items

The items presented below are available for purchase in the Shop, or found at PokéStops.

Poké Ball

The well-known Poké Ball is an item used to captures Pokémon. Fifty Poké Balls will be given to you at the beginning of your adventure in Pokémon GO, and you will be able to find more by:

  • Visiting PokéStops
  • Gaining levels
  • Buying them in the Shop (in packs of 20, 100 or 200) for PokéCoins

Max Potion

This item fully restores your Pokémon's HP.

Max Potions can be bought in packs of 10 for 200 PokéCoins.

Max Revive

This item revives a Pokémon that has fainted and fully restores its HP.

Max Revives can be bought from the Shop in packs of 6 for 180 PokéCoins.

Incense

Incense can be used to attract Pokémon out of hiding for 30 minutes. It also increases your chances of meeting more of that Pokémon.

At the beginning of your adventure, two Incense will be given to you. Afterwards, you can buy them at the Shop (in packs of 1, 8 or 25) for Pokécoins.

Incubator

The Incubator (as its name suggests) will allow you to start the Egg hatching process. Eggs can be found at PokéStops, or obtained from Gifts. Once your Egg is placed in the Incubator, you will have to walk a given number of kilometers to hatch it — depending on the rarity of the Pokémon in the Egg.

Only one Incubator will be given to you at the beginning of your adventure. You will only be able to hatch one egg at a time per Incubator. You can also gain Incubators as rewards for levelling up your trainer.

Limited Incubators can be purchased for 150 PokéCoins each. These break after three uses.

Super Incubator

Like the standard Incubator, these help to hatch Eggs. The difference is that the Super Incubator hatches Eggs 1.5 times quicker. So, a 10 km Egg will hatch after 6.66 km of walking. These incubators also break after three uses.

You can buy them in the Shop for 200 PokéCoins each.

Lucky Egg

Lucky Eggs have nothing to do with Pokémon Eggs. If you activate one, you will receive double XP for 30 minutes.

You can buy them at the Shop (in packs of 1, 8 or 25) in exchange for PokéCoins.

Lure Module

The Lure Module will attract Pokémon to a PokéStop for 30 minutes. The difference between Lure Modules and Incense is that the Lure Module will work for all players near the PokéStop.

They can be purchased at the Shop (in packs of 1 or 8) in exchange for PokéCoins.

There are also special kinds of Modules available for purchase:

  • Mossy Lure Module: attracts Bug, Grass, and Poison-type Pokémon for 30 minutes. Also needed to evolve Eevee into Leafeon.
  • Glacial Lure Module: attracts Ice and Water-type Pokémon for 30 minutes. Also needed to evolve Eevee into Glaceon.
  • Magnetic Lure Module: attracts Electric, Rock, and Steel-type Pokémon for 30 minutes. Also needed to evolve Magneton and Nosepass into Magnezone and Probopass respectively.

You can purchase these special Lure Modules in the Shop for 200 PokéCoins each.

Bag Upgrade

The Bag is where you store all your Items. At the beginning of your Pokémon GO adventure, your bag can hold up to 350 Items (including the Camera and Incubators).

You can get more storage space in your bag by purchasing a "Bag Upgrade" in the Store. This costs 200 PokéCoins and increases your storage space by 50.

Pokémon Storage Upgrade

The Pokémon Storage is where you keep your Pokémon and Eggs that you find during your adventures. When you start the game, your Pokémon storage will be limited to 250 Pokémon and 9 eggs.

You will be able to increase your Pokémon storage space by purchasing a Pokémon Storage Upgrade in the Shop. This will increase your Pokémon storage space by 50 and costs 200 PokéCoins.

Team Medallion

Are you fed up with the Team you chose at the start of your adventure? Are Gyms always held by the enemy? Fear not, because now you can change your Team with the all-new Team Medallion!

This item can be puchased in the Shop for 1,000 PokéCoins.

Items that can only be found

The items presented below are not for sale, and can only be found in PokéStops or by leveling up.

Revive

Revives will only be useful when one of your Pokémon is knocked out. This happens in Gym and Raid Battles.

A Revive will heal your fainted Pokémon and return 50% of its maximum HP.

Revives can only be obtained by visiting PokéStops once level 5 has been reached. Some will also be given to you when you increase your Trainer Level.

Potions

Potions heal your conscious Pokémon for lost HP. Each type of Potion can be obtained in PokéStops once you have reached a certain level.

Other items

Camera

This item is given to you at the beginning of your Pokémon GO adventure, and allows you to take pictures of the Pokémon you encounter in the wild. To do this, simply press the Camera Button during your encounter.

Raid Pass

The Raid Pass allows you to participate in a Raid Battle of your choice. You can only hold one at a time, and if you do not have one in your inventory then you can claim one free at any Gym.

If you want to participate in several Raid Battles per day, you need to purchase the Premium Raid Pass.

You can find these in the Shop for 100 PokéCoins each.

Technical Machines (TM)

These items allow you to change the attacks of your Pokémon.

The Charged TM allows you to teach a Pokémon a new Charged Attack.

The Fast TM allows you to learn a Fast Attack.

TMs can only be found as rewards from Raid Battles and Research tasks.

Rare Candy

Awarded at the end of Raid Battles, the Rare Candy allows you to transform it into the Pokémon Candy of your choice.

For example, if you need one more Eevee Candy to make that Glaceon evolution and have a Rare Candy at hand, just find Eevee in your inventory, select Item from the menu, and then Rare Candy to convert it into an Eevee Candy. Simple!

Gift

These are Items you receive from PokéStops and can be sent to trainers on your Friends List. When opened, they contain Items of higher value than normally obtained from spinning PokéStops — and they can even include Eggs!

These special Eggs require you to walk 7 km to hatch. They are the primary source of Alolan Pokémon, and you have a higher chance of finding a Baby Pokémon.

You can only carry ten Gifts at once, so make sure you send them to your friends and increase that Friendship Level!

Star Piece

This special item can be used to obtain 50% more Stardust for 30 minutes.

It is currently unavailable in the Shop, but it can be obtained for completing certain steps within Special Research tasks.
