Frost Mage in WoW Classic is the PvP monster, keeping foes at bay with chilling power.

Tier A (PvE) Tier S (PvP)

The Frost Mage is an excellent caster, be it PvE content or PvP, especially Patch 1.12. Indeed, the major raid of this early patch is the Molton Core, largely comprised of fire elementals ... so being a Frost Mage is pretty helpful.

In PvP, the unconditional strength of Frost remains of course in the application of their permanent snares using one of their many slowing or CC abilities. When it comes to melee classes, they'll hate you.

Great in PvE and PvP
Amazing survivability with Ice Block and Ice Barrier
Free food & water
Good mobility
Great group utility
Great at world PvP
High mana usage
Wearing cloth makes them easy to kill
Basically no boss can be snared by your slows
Has a high skillcap in PvP

Talents

Winter's Cold 19/0/32

The Winter's Cold Build should generally only be used by a single Mage in raids to enhance the spell power cast by all other raid Mages using Winter's Cold Talent . At least one Mage per raid must be assigned to this task, it's inevitable.

A variation exists in 17/0/34 by removing two points in Arcane Meditation and adding them in improved Blizzard , but this is rare and reserved for the most seasoned Mages.

PvP 17/0/34

The Frost PvP Build is the perfect mix of survival, damage and CCs. Indeed, if you thought that the Fire Mages could unleash Hell on their opponents, wait until you see the PvP power and CC of the Frost Mage. In the case of seasoned opponents, the Ice Barrier and the Ice Block should save you in a sticky situation, whilst Improved Counterspell is mandatory against other casters.

Stats to prioritize

Intelligence = Spell Damage> Critical Spell Strike> Hit> Spell Penetration (PvP)> Spirit> Stamina

Rotation and abilities

This is not a joke: the rotation of the Frost Mage/Arcane Mage in raid is limited to launch Frostbolt until the boss is dead. Your only role is to have mana so you can cast Frost spells and apply Winter's Cold to improve the damage of other raid Mages, nothing more. Frostbolt from start to finish, that's all.

Ice Block

Ice Block

Ice Block is one of the Frost Mage flagship spells and is only accessible to Fire Mage's who play PvP builds. It allows you to become immune against all damage for 10 seconds but prevents you from moving or casting other spells during this time. Very powerful in case of too much raid damage, or if your opponent becomes too powerful.

Note: In PvP, do not use it with only 15 Hp left, your target will be happy to wait until the end of the spell to end you. Try to use it when your opponent uses a big offensive CD.

Ice Barrier

Ice Barrier

Ice Barrier is an incredible survivability tool, both in PvE and PvP but that's not all ... It also stops you from getting casting push back when hit by melee! A must-have, especially since it has a recharge time of only 30 seconds.

Best Race For Frost Mage

Horde

Troll

The Berserker is rather powerful for Frost Mage, it makes Troll one of the best races if you plan to play Frost. Special mention for Beast Slaying which is useful for leveling or farming.

Undead

The real interest of the Undead is the Will of the Forsaken which is excellent in PvP. Apart from that, Cannibalism is interesting in levelling. The only interest they have in PvE is that they have a base of slightly more points of Intelligence and Spirit than other races.

Alliance

Gnome

If there is one race to remember, both in PvE and PvP, for Frost Mage, it is this one. Expansive Mind has no equal even on the Horde in PvP as in PvE, Escape Artist is an obvious asset in PvP and, if you follow our professions advice, Specialization (Engineering) is excellent.

Human

The Human has serious assets making it potentially better than the Orc depending on the chosen build: Diplomacy is great when grinding reputation, and Perception is very useful in PvP.

WoW Classic: Race Tier List

World of Warcraft: Classic has a number of races to choose from, and making that choice has long-term consequences. You don't want to regret your choice later, so we've broken down the races in our tier list for WoW: Classic.

Professions

Tailoring

Tailoring is a must-have for the Mage: it allows you to craft pre-raid armour pieces of unparalleled power, including the Robe of the Void. This is the quintessential profession of the Warlock.

Engineering

The Engineer is the best choice by default as it's great in both PvE and PvP. From Goblin Sapper Charge to the Arcanite Dragonling to the Dense Dynamite, everything about this role will always be useful!

Enchanting

If you do not opt for Engineering, then the Enchanting profession will certainly delight you since it will allow you to make your own enchantments by disenchanting the items you get on the way and in raids/dungeons, but also the ones you make for yourself from Tailoring.
