A Study in Potions, the latest event in Genshin Impact, asks players to assist Mondstadt alchemist Timaeus in his quest to create a potion.
To take part, you need to have reached at least Adventure Rank 30, and have completed Archon Quest Chapter I: Act II: "Farewell, Archaic Lord".
Once those prerequisites are met, complete the Elixirs and Potions World Quest. This will unlock the event.
The event runs until January 17, 2022, at 3:59am local time.
How to play the A Study in Potions event
Head to the designated location, which, like most events, is a special dungeon.
A new trial round unlocks every two days, with all unlocked after the fifth day.
There are four floors to the trial challenge, which you can complete in any order you choose.
Completing a floor will raise the difficulty of the following floors. So, starting with the first floor, progression will be Normal > Hard > Extreme > Fearless.
- Accurate Sample: Score Multiplier x1.0
- Strong Control Group: Score Multiplier x2.5
Preparing for Battle
You need to craft a team of four to take on the challenge. Be mindful that you can use the provided Trial Characters, but Elemental Resonances will not apply in that case. Nor can you use food or other items during a challenge.
You can equip Smoldersleet Potions, which will provide various buffs. Up to three can be taken per floor. Used potions will be consumed after the floor, when your trial progress is saved. Any characters used on a floor will also go into 'Standby', and will be unavailable until you clear another floor.
You can reset the trial at any time, which reverts the difficulty of floors and restores any potions consumed.
Also be mindful that A Study in Potions can only be done in single-player mode.
Completing a floor challenge involves defeating all opponents within a specified time limit, a pretty standard occurrence in Genshin events.
Once the challenge is complete, you'll get a score, which corresponds to a medal - Baroque Bronze, Secret Silver, or Glorious Gold.
All floor scores add up to give you an overall Trial Score, which you can then use as a benchmark to try and improve in further runs.
Rack up the medals and the points, in order to unlock rewards such as Primogems, Hero's Wit, Mystic Enhancement Ore, Mora, weapon enhancement and Talent level-up materials.
Make sure you collect your rewards before the event ends!
