We attack a big piece in this article with a guide to help you in the Wild Area. This is the big plus of Pokémon Sword and Shield over older versions and there is a lot to talk about. Then you know what you have to do!

What is Wild Area?

A gigantic expanse of moorland where you can walk freely. You will meet in the Wild Area, a lot of NPCs, players (with online enabled), wild Pokémon, Raids Max Battle, Poké Balls with objects inside and even berry trees. In short, everything you need to fill up on adventures.

The Wild Area is divided into two huge areas with more or less strong Pokémon. You can go anywhere you want (except across the water until you improve your bike on Route 9). Be careful though, you will probably find Pokémon stronger than you are!

You can reach the Wild Area through the 3 available entrances (see map below), or you can travel directly to it with flying taxis. You will reach the Wild Area for the first time with Hop before you even have a single badge. If you want to know exactly when you will pass through the Wild Area during the main story, don't hesitate to consult our complete walkthrough.

How Wild Area work

As we told you earlier, Wild Area are divided into two zones. The first one has a little less powerful Pokémon at the beginning of the game, but you can still come across everything. You will need to have all the badges in the game if you want to be able to catch all Pokémon from Wild Area.

If you fall against someone stronger than you, be sure to always own Poké Dolls, it will be usefull to flee.

Please note that you must click on the left analog stick to whistle. This attracts the attention of wild Pokémon. This is especially convenient for all Pokémon that fly far above the ground.

Finally, there are many sub-areas with their own Pokémon. It's up to you to explore all the possibilities and discover all the landscapes. Moreover, the weather is changing in the Wild Area, which influences the appearance of Pokémon and Raids. You can change the weather by changing the date and time on your console (at your own risk).

List of Wild Area sub-zones:

  • Lake of Outrage
  • Hammerlocke Hills
  • Giant's Cap
  • Dusty Bowl
  • Giant's Mirror
  • Stony Wilderness
  • Bridge Field
  • Motostoke Riverbank
  • Watchtower Ruins
  • East Lake Axewell
  • Axew's Eye
  • North Lake Miloch
  • West Lake Axewell
  • Dappled Grove
  • Rolling Fields
  • Meetup Spot
  • South Lake Miloch
  • Giant's Seat

Pick up items

In the Wild Area you can pick up objects in two forms: stars that glitter on the ground, indicating the presence of an object, or Poké Balls left on the ground.

Objects marked with stars seem to reappear, at least for some. Be careful when you walk around and look around.

Poké Balls, on the other hand, can only be picked up once and often contain valuable items such as TM. Go through the entire Wild Area with a fine-tooth comb, it shouldn't take that long. Be careful not to miss anything even in the nooks and crannies.

Below is a short guide focusing on Evolution stones, items that can be found in mass in Wild Area.

Pokemon Sword, Shield: How to obtain Evolution Stones

Here is a little tip to quickly get many Evolution Stones in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Exchange items

This will be done through NPCs or other players. If you play in online mode, you will see other players. Click on them to get Curry ingredients.

In your walks you will probably come across a kind of adventurer who will offer you Curry ingredients in his shop (see screen below).

Beyond that, you will meet stingy NPCs of Watts who will offer you their service in exchange for Watts. They are 2 or 3 in the wilderness and move after each interaction with you. There is a fisherman, an adventurer, etc...

The Macro Cosmos NPCs and others

Watts Shop, improvements and bike races are anything that might interest you. There are four of these NPCs and they are close to each of the Wild Area entrances (one of them is in front of the Daycare) and are dressed as employees of Chairman Rose.

In addition, his friend on the right, on the picture below, will ask you to observe your Currydex. Don't forget to do it from time to time.

Daycare

There is a daycare centre in the Wild Area, it's a detail that might interest you. It's located in the Rolling Fields.

Dynamax raids

Discover everything there is to know about this activity, thanks to our guide, present in the Wild Area:

Watts

Watts are very much related to wild lands, all the details in a next article.

Pokémon Camp

If you want to camp in the Wild Area, it's possible. Set up your tent and read the guide below:

You will probably discover other things for yourself in the Wild Area. This is the place to spend time in this new Pokémon game. There will always be something to do there.

We still deplored the stability of the game in this area, once the online is activated. Prioritized the solo game here, to have something fluid. Hoping for a patch that will fix this big black spot in the title.
