Stating that more work is needed on Cyberpunk 2077, Polish developer CD Projekt Red have announced that the release date of the tabletop RPG-based game will change from its original April date to September 17, 2020.
While they maintain that the game is in a complete, playable state, they say that they want the extra time to 'finish playtesting, fixing and polishing'. Given the scale of the game and their desire for the game to be a 'crowning achievement for this generation', this seems like the logical choice.
It's sure to be a bitter blow to fans of major titles releasing this year, especially after delays to both Final Fantasy VII Remake and Marvels Avengers in recent days.
The delay may also raise questions about the release itself. With the next-generation PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on their way, what impact will this have?
Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the hottest titles on the release slate for 2020. After an enigmatic trailer way, way back in 2013, the hype increased exponentially following the surprise reveal at E3 2019 that Hollywood superstar Keanu Reeves would play iconic character Johnny Silverhand.
One thing is for sure — the delay will only serve to build more buzz around Night City and the adventures that await players in September.
It also reinforces the message CD Projekt Red sent in that initial trailer.
