In American high school and colleges, the choice of a sporting practice is of primary importance. Not just anecdotal, this decision can lead to scholarships to help students who want to go on to higher education.
In partnership with a startup called PlayVS — which aims to promote esport as a "traditional sport" just like basketball or football — several American high school associations have undertaken the implementation of a program aimed at allowing students to choose esport as a sport.
More than 13,000 high schools have already joined the program, offering students several disciplines/games such as SMITE, Rocket League, League of Legends and, of course, Fortnite. The program includes training, exercises and competitions. Parents or students themselves can pay $64 to be placed in a league in order to compete with neighboring schools — as it is already the case with any other sport.
For Fortnite, the first season soon to be launched will be free for players since Epic Games has decided to support the project and become an official partner. Registrations for this inaugural season — to be played in Duos and that will start on March 2 — are still open until February 17 for high school students and February 24 for university and college students.
Don't hesitate and register if you want to win your place for the championship next May!
