Another year, another inevitable Madden title. This time, the long-running football franchise will make its debut on next-gen consoles: Microsoft's Xbox Series X and likely Sony's PlayStation 5, as well as coming to current-gen Xbox One and also likely PlayStation 4.
During Microsoft's Inside Xbox event earlier today, star quarterback and Super Bowl LIV MVP Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs — cover star of Madden 20 — introduced a first look at EA Sports' new title, as part of a retrospective trailer that dates back to before Mahomes was even born.

As with a lot of games that have been announced for both Xbox One and Xbox Series X, Madden will also come with a free upgrade option for those who elect to purchase the game on Xbox One first.
However, EA have thrown in a bit of a squib kick into the works — which is why it's not being advertised as part of the Smart Delivery program. In an FAQ on EA's website is the stipulation that only those buying Madden 21 before December 31, 2020, will benefit from the free upgrade to the Series X version — and only if they do so by March 31, 2021.
Smart Delivery it is not.
Madden 2020 comes to Xbox One (and likely PS4) in Summer 2020, with no specific release date announced.
