Last weekend, Epic Games held the first part of the Fortnite Champion Series Invitational. This tournament is made for all players who have reached the Champion rank and are over 13. In Brazil, Zenon — a 9 years old famous Youtuber and streamer — decided to lie about his age in order to participate.
Epic Games quickly realized that something was wrong and then informs Zenon that he's banned from Fortnite immediately and for four years.
Zenon and his father then used social networks to challenge Epic Games' verdict. Within hours, the hashtag #FreeZenon went viral on Twitter. A large number of pro players from all over the world showed their support for the young player.
They're particularly offended to see a young player punished so promptly, even though on other servers, some players like L2mole or xbox controller have cheated during these FNCS, without being punished immediately.
Epic Games' rules are clear: the publisher has the right to choose the sanction it wishes for "ineligible players who mislead or attempt to mislead Event Administrators by providing false eligibility information."
At the time of writing, Epic Games hasn't yet reacted to the controversy.
