Anna Donlon better known as SuperCakes is the executive producer of Valorant. She spoke on the networks via a video to talk about the future of the game and keep the community informed. In this Developer Diary, she introduces new features, explains how Riot Games works and talks about various projects.
Ranked Mode and Quality of Life
The players waited impatiently for the ranked queue to be active to climb the ladder and get closer to the Radiant rank. If the early surrenders have already been introduced, other new features are to be deployed:
- Cancellation of matches: surely when a player leaves the game at the very beginning to avoid an entire 4v5 match.
- Time-out: very useful for professionals, it offers tactical breaks like on CS:GO .
- Protection of streamers: protection against streamhack is always welcome.
Finally, as we have seen with the last patch, Riot Games has promised to regularly balance the game taking into account the feedback from the community.
Episodes and Acts
Valorant won't work with a season system so as not to confuse players because of a word that has several meanings. The game will work in Episodes (6 months) and Acts (2 months) with obviously some flexibility according to the calendar deadlines.
The goal of Riot Games is to propose a new agent for each act — with an average of six new agents per year. In addition to Reyna, other newcomers should quickly join forces.
Each act will have its own battle pass and specific rewards. As for the skins, he should come out very regularly every week or two.
Finally, SuperCakes has promised that the community will have the opportunity, with the new episodes and acts, to learn more about the lore of the game. The mysteries of the floating island or the shiny green crates will gradually be unravelled.
Game Modes
While Riot Games didn't originally think it would offer many game modes, it realized that players were keen on alternative experiences. After Spike Rush, more new modes will be released. Hopefully, a new one will be available before the beginning of Episode 2.
Player Behavior
Toxic behaviour is taken seriously. In addition to having developed Vanguard, its anti-cheating system, a whole team is dedicated to studying a new system to fight players who spoil the gaming experience of others (negative attitude, intentional feeding, insulting behaviors...).
Anna Donlon reminds that the company is delighted to receive reports and data to improve its system and purge unbearable players from the game. Continue to report these during your games and soon there will be a feedback to warn you that one of your reports has resulted in the punishment of a toxic player.
