Immediately surpassed by the battle royale, Fortnite's Save the World mode slowly draws its curtain on the month of June. In a bitterly worded statement, Epic Games announced that "development of new content will slow down after this official release." In addition to this news, the publisher also explains that this PVE mode will be removed from the status of anticipated access.
As compensation, founder packs purchased by players will be upgraded to the next level for free with unlocking of all included rewards. Owners of the Ultimate Edition will receive the all-new Metal Team Leader Pack and 8,000 V-Bucks.
Epic Games reminds that "the adventure doesn’t end here for Save the World." It will remain accessible and playable, with a seasonal rotation of events and scenarios.
In spite of these compensations and the assurance that the game will live on, the community isn't fooled. Epic Games is planning to gradually move away from this mode of play, having far fewer aficionados than the battle royale.
The hashtag #SaveSaveTheWorld immediately appeared on the social networks, to indicate dissatisfaction. STW fans are mostly shocked by such news, especially since this mode was until recently frequently featured on the official Epic Games website.
