Between Apple and Epic Games, the war of attrition is now being waged. The September 28 hearing didn't yield much, and the courts refrained from making any decision, postponing the next deadlines to 2021. For Fortnite, this obviously means that the battle royale isn't going to be on the App Store anytime soon...
The judge suggested that the next hearing be held sometime next year, in July 2021.
Slasher said that "this wasn't a good hearing for Epic". While the first legal verdict, dated August 25, had been rather favorable to Tim Sweeney's firm — with the order for Apple to continue to support Unreal Engine — this second hearing took place in general distrust.
The two companies camped on their positions and didn't want to give anything up, getting bogged down in a long conflict. For the American justice system, the only clear priority on this conflict is that it must not "harm the other actors of the video game ecosystem". Apart from that, the judge refrained from expressing a decision on one or the other of the parties, maintaining the status quo.
Epic Games and Apple entered open warfare on August 13 after Epic set up its own payment system — bypassing the store usually taxed 30% by Apple. The Californian firm then withdrew the battle royale from its App Store in retaliation.
