You'd think with a sixteen-year-old game such as Pokémon Emerald, all such bugs or glitches would have been discovered by now. Never would you have expected a fish to uncover a hilarious impediment to progress!
The fish that take part in the Mutekimaru livestream challenge on YouTube channel has managed to stump Nintendo, blocking progress in one of the most classic puzzles in the Pokémon series — moving rocks to get through.
As you can see in the video below, the fish tank is divided into a grid, with each square the fish passes through corresponding to a specific input in the game.
In a 24/7 live broadcast, we see the aquatic critter directing the Pokémon Trainer through the adventure, similar to initiatives such as Twitch Plays Pokémon.
The area of Pokémon Emerald affected is the Seafloor Cavern, where Groudon and Kyogre are awakened by Team Magma/Aqua. A puzzle based on moving rocks using the HM Strength blocks your progress, although the room can be reset by leaving and reentering.
The problem is that the fish performed so many inputs thanks to its erratic swimming that it uncovered a bug that no one had found to date.
Instead of the final stone being moved upwards, creating a path through the puzzle, it actually duplicated — making it impossible to solve the puzzle.
The channel is live right now, so you can tune in and see the progress of the fish so far.
