Google Stadia closes its studios and changes business strategy

As confirmed by Kotaku, Google has closed their internal Montreal and Los Angeles-based development studios. Jade Raymond, long-time producer of the Assassin's Creed series, has also left the company to pursue other endeavors.

At the same time, the Stadia team is being restructured, and a new strategy implemented that will impact more than 150 developers. New positions will be found for within Google, according to the firm.

The Stadia development tech will be distributed to studios free of charge, in order to create more partnerships. This is the only way for Stadia to establish itself permanently and grow, according to Phil Harrison, the man at the head of operations.

In the meantime, Google Stadia is still the first of a very promising type of service, although many features promised in early trailers are missing, or still in the testing phase.
