At the time of writing, the Playstation 5 has a staggering 4.5 million sales worldwide, according to Sony's financial results. It's more or less the same figure as the launch of the Playstation 4 in 2013.
Sony reported that an additional 3 million consoles are expected to be distributed between January and March 2021, matching the number of PS4 sold between January and March 2014.
Nevertheless, delays in delivery and manufacturing for both the PS4 and PS5 are multiplying, to the point where the console is sold at a loss.
Because the cost of manufacturing a console is sometimes higher than its selling price, a lot of profit is lost and Sony can no longer refill its stock.
